About Me

Hi! I’m Sherri a New York Girl in a Midwest Kitchen – welcome to my site! It’s a place where food, family, and tradition come together. I’ve been cooking and baking since I’m 7 years old next to the greatest chef I know – my mother!

My love for cooking has evolved over the years. From the early years at my mother’s side, to the numerous cooking classes I have taken it has been a amazing journey. I have worked in cooking schools, been a personal caterer and sold baked goods at farmer’s markets. I love to cook, bake, write, create, and take lots and lots of photographs.

At Splash of Sherri, I’ll share old favorites, new trends and food inspirations which represent my Jewish heritage, growing up in Brooklyn, NY, living most of life split between the sunny sandy beaches of Florida with delicious costal cuisine, to the exciting melting pot of food and culture in NYC. I now reside in Columbus, Ohio where the food scene is booming.

The Midwest is also where I crave the foods of my childhood. It’s near impossible to find the many foods I enjoyed while growing up, and foods from other cultures I’ve adopted along the way, so I recreate them here for everyone to enjoy.

I can’t wait for you to come into my kitchen!

Enjoy!

I cook very reminiscent of my mother, she was the true OG balabusta and created magic from everything she touched in the kitchen. A balabusta is a Yiddish term used to describe a perfect homemaker, mother, hostess, excellent cook, and boss of the house.
She is the spiritual and emotional heart of her family who makes sure the refrigerator is always full, sets a gorgeous table, ready for company at the drop of a hat, and ensures the house is full of love and laughter. That’s me in a nutshell.

I hope my modern day take on classic foods brings you a little nostalgia, a lot of inspiration, and a house full of family and friends to share it with.
